I had the same dilemma w/ my late cat too (RIP sweet girl Einstein!). She lived many years w/ failing kidneys, btw, so you may still have lots of years ahead of you

What I did was I bought a closet/door stopper and stopped open the door to a closet where only she could get through the crack and to the food.
