When you click on a thumbnail of a photo posted in the forum, it does open a new page/browser window with the photo enlarged (for me it does in all browsers on both PC and Mac).
In Lightroom, try resizing the photo by pixel/canvas size. Most camera devices are set to take photos that are huge (i.e. 1200px x 1200px). I usually downsize 30% to post to Yorkie Talk.
