Hi Pebbles3 welcome to YT. Most breeders don't let their puppies go until 12 weeks (most good breeeders).
As for what she said, I've never heard about them losing weight like that, ever, unless something is wrong with them. She is less than 2lbs and only 8 weeks old, so I certainly hope she gains some weight.
