I microchip at 10 weeks. I'm surprised AKC didn't say anything. It's a very big no no.
I bought a male one time that didn't match his sire when I DNA'd him for breeding, and come to find out she "thought" she knew who was who when she mixed the litters up. It cost her suspension, and DNA for all her dogs. It was a nightmare because it took forever to get it straightened out and cost her a fortune, plus the embarrassment of suspension. I just wouldn't take the chance.
