Having the longer leash will not necessarily stop pulling.

I use the 4' leash for walking on city sidewalks or streets. It keeps the boys closer to my feet, out of people's way, and gives me more control.
The 6' is nice for giving them more room, but I have to be careful on the sidewalk next to busy streets, even when there is a little grass in between. 6' is just enough to allow them to get off the curb.
I believe height of the human also affects what size leash is comfy. I'm 5'9 and comfortable with the 4' leash.
