Interesting question.
I got Cali, a proven show quality Yorkie, about 5 years ago when she was about 10 months old and being successfully shown. They only reason I got her was because the breeder who shows did not think she would make the 5 pounds for breeding and once you go to the trouble and expense of getting a champion you want to breed them to get you next champion.
But here is what just hit me -- I don't remember at all what I paid for her, because I have never ever given that a thought since the day she came home to me. In fact I probably would have paid more if I had just known how great she was going to be. I know she was not cheap because I wanted a show quality, very healthy, example of the breed, but at this point i would have to go back to my checkbook and look.
