I'm not familiar with Petsilk but if it has sulfate or other such chemicals in it then it may be that using it once or twice a week is too much for your dog's skin. Sulfates strip the skin despite all the conditioning ingredients put in the bottle with them. Such a shampoo may work well for a once a month bath but weekly or bi-weekly may just be too much.
You could look for an all natural shampoo and conditioner that does not contain the type of chemical that strips the skin. We use Yorkie Splash and Shine products. We bathe Gracie once a week and have never had a skin problem with it. There are other recommended all natural brands out there. Just watch for the companies that advertize that their product has one or two natural ingredients but if you read the ingredient list you will find they do contain skin stripping chemicals as well.
Diet can also be an issue and both elements are important to check into. Many times the "medicated" shampoos contain even more skin drying agents than the regular shampoos.
Have you considered getting your pup a pen instead of a crate and training him to use puppy pads? It might mean less baths for the little guy. |
