I have gone though this with some of my pups. Unfortunately there is no easy solution. Some of mine continue to dig in their water and make a big mess and they are 4 years old. One solution that worked for me a little was to put a smaller bowl inside of the bigger bowl. It just makes it a little harder for them to splash out the water. Also elevating the bowl will help too if you have something the sit the bowl on.
