I don't think you should have said "you don't have a retirement plan" they may feel once they have you on their plan you'll work a few years then retire. This is why I say this. I was "up there in age" I applied for a management position I was very very qualified for, as you know on job apps. there is no question about what your age is. I got the job, they had a retirement plan, I was told their plan started up in June, I was hired May 21st. I was told I just made the enrollment period (meaning anyone that was hired in July would have to wait 11 months before going on their plan). The day I started the job the office manger / payroll person asked for my drivers license, she took it and left the office, 10 minutes later she walks back in to the office I was to work in, her mouth was dropped to the ground as if she was in shock lol, walks over to me and says I wouldn't believe "how OLD" your are if I didn't see your drivers license. ( didn't / don't look my age lol) I tell her don't let the number bother you, I am here for life. So I am working there one year, I hear ppl talking about their retirement plan papers they had received in the mail, I had not gotten anything, but I waited a few weeks then approached her about it lol. She tells me the retirement plan was put on hold lol but I was still on it, I say to myself BS, this b.....h feels I'm going to work a year or 2 then leave, to her that's not long enough for anyone to be entitled to their retirement plan, I didn't believe the plan was put on hold. Now I am there 2 years, I ask ppl did they get their plan paper work in the mail, they say no, they say they asked about it and was told it was on hold lol (I forget the 1/2 a__ reason I was told) I really didn't need their retirement plan I had 2 from previous jobs, I wasn't working because I needed a retirement plan. I told my closest co_workers my thoughts, I also told them "watch when I do retire the plan will go back into effect" I worked there for 10 years then retired (the plan was still on hold lol) I was retired 3 months, had been keeping in touch with a few ppl and was told they got their retirement paper work and they hadn't lost anything during that 10 year hold up lol. This woman was just a jealous, evil, filled with hate for all man kind type of person. It was a privately owned company, she was working there for 15 yrs before I started, was always in the ear of the owner. It didn't matter to me about a pension plan, I already had 2 good ones. I never asked about one at the time of the interview, it was told to me the day I was hired. So it depends, if this is a big corp. you could be safe with that statement, if it is a privately owned Company!!!!!! I do wish you much luck and hope you get the job, if for some reason you don't I suggest never to say you need a retirement plan, to some ppl this sends up a red flag.
