I have yet to see anyone imply that they are giving their dog more than a lick or two. While I agree that caffeine can be toxic, the level of toxicity is dose related. Personally, I don't give my dogs anything with caffeine, but my grandmother used to let her dog drink some coffee flavored milk prior to car trips on the advise of her vet. For what ever reason it had a paradoxical effect in her dog and she would sleep the entire 5+ hour trip.
