We trained Gracie to puppy pads when she was young. Later I taught her to go outside by taking her for walks. I never leave her outside alone and we don't have a doggy door.
You can teach her to go outside but it is going to take some effort on your part. Take her outside when you think she may need to go potty and take the newspaper out with you. Stand there with her and say something like "go potty" or whatever phrase you think will be easy for her to pick up on. It's pretty much just like what you would do to train a puppy. Once she learns to potty on the paper outside you can slowly take the paper away.
We have kept the puppy pads for when we have to be away for a few hours and for when we have bad weather. I think they are a wonderful convenience for a small dog owner. |
