You could give little globs of peanut butter and little pieces of cheese, both of which are palatable and calorie dense.

BUT, don't be afraid (at all) of using the Nutri-Cal - it's actually a *very* good nutrient-dense supplement - it's not just sugar at all, not even close. Here are it's ingreds and analysis:
