Just wanted to introduce ourselves I just now joined and this is my first post here. My name is Pam and my husband and I just bought a male Yorkie. He's 14 months old. We have a Maltese who just turned two years old this week and decided on a dog past the puppy stage who could stand their ground a little more when playing with her. The breeder also had puppies and I was really tempted but we fell in love with little Toby. He reminds my husband and me so much of our little Cayce, our Yorkie who died almost two years ago. The breeder had kept Toby from a litter she bred. She had wanted to show him but said he didn't grow into what she was looking for and decided she would sell him. It's almost like we did get a puppy because he had to get all of his vaccines when we took him to be checked by the vet this week, along with all the standard things they do at the first visit. He goes next week to be neutered and while he's under anesthesia, he will be getting a dental and retained baby teeth extracted. He does have some plaque and the breeder said it's because she's on well water with no fluoride. Also, there were crystals in his urine, but no stones or UTI. So, we have him on a prescription diet now and antibiotics. Anyway, Toby is such a sweet little guy!! He comes to anything he's called...Toby, Sweetie, Little Guy...whatever comes out of my mouth, lol. Please wish me luck with housebreaking. I have him in an x-pen and when he's not in it, he has on a belly band after I've taken him to the potty pad. He will only use a potty pad though when it's in the x-pen. Otherwise, he will hike his leg on doorways or other erect objects. |
