I successfully taught Teddy to lay down by teaching him to sit first and then gently pulling his front feet forward and gently pushing his back at the same time until he was in the lay down position then giving him a treat in that position. He eventually did it himself! It took about two weeks or ten 20 minute training sessions.

Oh! and meant to say - don't forget to say the command as you're putting your dog in position so that they know to associate the action an the word -good luck!
