As an aside that is very important, I need to know, along the way here, what are now the correct tests and such that I should be doing. Most of what I have read about weren't there in the day, and I do not want to be -----I want to do it right and need the new knowledge.

Without knowing if you signed a written contract or just came to some sort of verbal agreement. Here is what I feel based on the facts you have presented. a) you were clear on wanting a show dog therefor b) this dog is tracking to be I am assuming a fair amount outside the standard of 7lbs then c) she does not have a show dog to sell you. I think you committed to purchasing a show prospect dog, although I never send a deposit in advance of any litter birth. I was on a waiting list for almost 3 yrs before I got my new show gal Dara. But I had never put a deposit down. Nor did the breeder ask me to.
If you want to forfeit your deposit then do so. But do not feel obligated to purchase a non show quality dog when you want a show quality dog.

Then in our library here there is an article entitled Top Health Concerns of Yorkies. Our Sick and Emergency thread will be a real eye opener for you to understand how YTs have multiple health concerns.
My suggestion is to start to go to shows in your area and meet the breeders of the current Yorkies showing. Join a local breed club if it is for YT great or Toy Dogs great, or even just a general club. Network, find out who is who in todays world.
Start following the show world through on line publications etc.
