As an aside that is very important, I need to know, along the way here, what are now the correct tests and such that I should be doing. Most of what I have read about weren't there in the day, and I do not want to be -----I want to do it right and need the new knowledge.

Why would you feel like you owed her more??? She sounds like a very shady breeder. The whole business about one price for dog alone and more for AKC papers is suspect. All AKC dogs should come with AKC papers! Some may be limited registration (no breeding rights) and some may be full registration (breeding rights), but all dogs sold by reputable breeders come with papers.
Find a reputable breeder, and then choose a puppy.
