I got my Cali when she was 10 months old who had been shown since she was a pup. The very ethical breeder decided that although she was doing very well in the ring, that she was not going to make the 5 pounds required to breed the next champion. I had friends who knew the breeder so I talked with her and she sent pictures. She raises her dogs in a lovely, large mansion type place with a puppy room, a bitches room, a room for adult dogs and a welping room.
My Cali was still in the puppy room.
I asked that she be spayed before I got her home because I did not want her to come to a new home situations, go to a vet to be spayed then come home to an unfamiliar place. So, I flew out to pick her up after her recovery. She was so well socialized she just took to me and the trip home just like it was nothing new.
The only issue we had was that Cali had never been outside and the grass freaked her out. She was already piddle pad trained and the 3rd night she was here she let me know she would sleep in the big bed. Everything went very smoothly.
Now her favorite pastime is squirrel chasing, so she got over that grass thing!
She still runs into the house to use the piddle paper then back outside to play!
She does obedience and a agility, but likes agility the best.
But when we go to the dog shows and the confirmation dogs line up she gets very excited and wants to go with them! She gets the prance going!
Like you said, she is a dream to groom and bath. In fact she will let me do just about anything with her.
I call her my beauty queen who became a farm dog
