LOL Judy. Agree with the carrier, and going out the door, and watch how the dog reacts to packing up for a trip
Show dogs should be a breeze to groom, and will know how to walk on the show lead, and are usually good pack animals; after all most show folks own more than one dog.
But I would like to know the "social" background of the dog; that being were they taken out on regular walks, trained on lead for this, socialized out in the wider world of home or show grounds. Were they kept basically kenneled of xpenned all day with only short time outs for a run in a backyard. Were they kept in a kennel separate to the home? Were they exposed to wide open spaces, lakes, hiking, folks on bicycles or rollerblades. How are they with children? Are they housebroken? Or have they just gone on pads in their Xpen/crate?
This will give you a better idea on what you are going to be working with.
Also for males, ask about their marking behaviour. Does he? Is he belly banded most of the time in the home?
I think what is fair to say in terms of training there should be a solid base to work from and with. And puppy or adult, it is the time you spend with your dog that will help bond you to him and vice versa. And the wonderfull feeling of accomplishment you and your dog "the team" feels when we get a new command or trick is quite wonderfull.
Good luck with your decision
