Try to keep in mind a lot of us have been on this board for years and have seen what happens when someone goes against there vets advise and try's a non proven method/home remedies and some have really had some very tragic out comes and that sticks with you for a long time. One of the problems with home remedies is there is no testing done on them to see what they can do to the dogs body or if they can cause problems that don't pop up until the future. Maybe the op will ask their vet about the method you suggested and see what they think.
