My boys do not lift their legs in the house. Outdoors, they do.
There is no gender combination that is best. I believe it all comes down to the individual dogs and their home environment. My boys are both very strong personalities. Neither one is the least bit submissive, a combo that is supposed to be difficult. But they get along wonderfully.
