Doing this assures the pup that this noise is no different than any other noise they hear. If they see nervous actions or reactions by their people then it is going to set them up to become nervous and fearful.

Now, I don't take her to fireworks but people around us do like to put on their own little "shows." We did the same thing with fire crackers and fireworks. Just act like normal. No sounds or reactions to the noise that would cause any fear or nervousness. She used to look at us to see if we were going to react but now that she is 4 years old she doesn't even blink when she hears the stuff.

My kids learned not to fear storms with the same method. They react to our reactions.
Good point cause yeh she jerks her little head right around and looks right at me like, "I'm ready to RUN if YOU are!!".... We've lived on this lake for 30 years and have always gone out on the boat for the show the cottage association puts on.
Not this year.....I have something more important to do.

I did the same thing with thunderstorms too . I like them....as long as their not violent.....will go out under porch and sit and watch them roll thru.....
There went one rattled the walls! She was on my lap and jerked startled but didn't react.....we have been outside most of day walking and playing frisbee. So funny ...she'd be at other end of yard fetching and BOOM! She'd come tearing back with no frisbee and end up between my feet....poor baby...but we continued on.....it always nice to get them used to their comfort words at a young age too ...it helps when they need it....
