I did a lot of research on different foods, and for a while tried Wellness Core, grain free, low fat. I was a little worried about the higher protein though, because one one of my other Yorkies also eats the same, and has MVD which needs lower protein.

What I liked much better was Nutrisca by Dogswell, which is grain free and uses chickpeas that have a lower glycemic effect. If you do a search about it you will find many people successfully using it for diabetic dogs. It isn't stocked at stores here, but I ordered from Amazon.com and had it shipped free.

I made sure Meika got only green beans for treats, and mostly allowed no treats or between meal eating at all.

By the way, much of what I read says that the food you feed them has only a very little effect on the diabetes. It is the timing that is important, and getting the insulin and food to cooperate at the same time, and last through the day, with feedings about 12 hrs apart.
