I think mainly because you were scared of the high dose steroid use. As I said earlier some treatments use a topical steroid on the bumps, but that is only from a brief research of articles on the web.
For me personally I would want to know that my dog has very solid liver function/kidney etc tests already in place before I do a high dose steroid use particularly if it ends up to be longer term use.
