Sandy, ask your doctors if they would strongly consider IPPB treatments....that is breathing treatments where medication is delivered under pressure, ....your momma puts a mouth piece in her mouth and clamps her lips around the mouthpiece, then when she takes in a breath, the machine PUSHES the medicated vapor into her lungs, and she has to exert some effore to exhale. This type of breathing treatment expands her lungs soooooo much better....they like to slap a mask on her and then go to the next patient, and your momma just continues to take those tiny little shallow breaths, not even getting the medication deep into her lungs where the pneumonia is. Make these people work for their money....they need to stand there and encourage your momma to breathe in on that IPPB (Intermittant Positive Pressure Breathing) machine, breathe in deeply, now blow out against the machine...this forces the medication down to the bottom of her lungs, helps her get "behind" that mucus that is all down in the lower part of her lungs, and then builds up her strength in her lungs when she blows against the machine to shut it off. Ask the docs why this type of breathing treatment would be contraindicated in her case? They may not be able to give you an answer, and she will get these treatments, which will help her immensely....
