This is most likely an anal gland issue bc of the bad odor you're describing. I'd be checking the area w/ a vet to make sure that functionally they look okay. Then I'd be switching foods right away -- and I'd prob eliminate all treats until I find the right food, then add treats back in to see if any of them cause the offending irritation and subsequent odor.
