I've heard of worse things than dogs preferring whole foods to a box of dry nuggets, it's like you eating a dry power bar over some fresh veg and a lovely bit of chicken. I wouldn't worry about them, I'd suggest speaking to your vet about home whole cooking if that's a route you would like. There is a lot of information available online from pet nutritionists.
