I really didn't want to put Cookie on any flea medication, and for a while just brushed her out every night with a flea comb. Then she got a tapeworm from eating one of the fleas and I decided it was a must to use flea prevention. Cookie has been on comfortis now for about 8 months and it works very well, though I'm not sure you could give it to a small yorkie (she is 7.5 lbs).
Heartworm prevention is an absolute must. I'm very surprised your vet hasn't prescribed it yet for your pup.
