Hello and congrats! New puppies are so much fun! I live in an area where we have hawks, owles and coyotes so my Yorkie and my Chi are both potty pad trained. I also had a rescue that had a litter of 7 last August and at 6 weeks old they were potty pad trained without ever going outside so I understand where you are coming from. I would try putting the x-pen in the main area of the house where you and your family are most of the time and use a smaller crate for bed time as the pup will need way less romping room when it is supposed to be sleeping. I would place potty pads in all pens and crates but be careful not to place too many around the house because a pup can get confused very easily. Start from day one. Your pup should have to potty as soon as you get him home so have everything ready. I had carpet in my living room and I am proud to say that not one of my 7 puppies ever used the bathroom on it. They would actually go and find their potty pad. One of the best tips I can give is to not let your pup have free roam of your house until trained. A puppy has to potty very often and especially after eating, sleep and play. Good luck to you and congrats!!! And...welcome to YT!
