My Yorkie did the same thing when he was young. We used to crate him at night, but he would whine for hours and would also wake us up in the middle of the night. One trick that really helped us was giving him a T-shirt we'd worn, so he'd be comforted by the scent.
We eventually started letting him sleep in our bed after he was potty trained, and everyone sleeps much better now.
We keep him gated in our kitchen when we're gone, with his bed, toys, food, water and potty pads. He used to cry a lot when we left but now he's learned we come home. He was also very needy when we first came home but he's grown out of that now.
He absolutely hates the crate so we really don't use it any more. |
