They do this bc some food may be coming out the other end undigested, some portion of the kibble - so the poo smells like food. What are you feeding? Sometimes feeding a higher quality kibble can help.
But what worked for me, immediately, when Wylie was doing this as a pup back when I fed kibble - was Solid Gold's SEP (Stop Eating Poop) - worked right away. You can get it on Amazon and elsewhere.
