Scared of my husband So, my 10 month old yorkie, Jax, is absolutely terrified of my husband. when my husband comes home, he is extremely submissive, and will only come to him sometimes, very reluctantly, with his tail between his legs and his belly on the floor in an army crawl position. After the initial excitement of my husband getting home wears off, he either cowers behind my legs, or if he has a clear path (ie. my husband isn't in the way) he will make a break for his bed and cower there. There are times when it's better, but it always gets worse on the weekend when my husband is home more (as in more cowering, refusing to eat and potty until after my husband is in bed, etc). He obviously feels submissive, nervous and insecure around my husband. Aside from a few scoldings when Jax was 3 and 4 months old, my husband hasn't gotten after him. In fact, for the last 4 or 5 months, my husband has done nothing but give treats, speak gently, give soft quiet loves and affection, and always lays down flat on the ground to be less intimidating. My husband is a fairly calm guy, rarely even raises his voice, and pretty much never yells. He really isn't overly dominate or intimidating. Jax is nervous around other dogs, and nervous around other men, but not like he is with my husband. He literally becomes a different dog when my husband is in the house. He's very well behaved otherwise. Any suggestions??? |
