My cousin loves GoT and HP, I haven't seen or read GoT but it's on my list.
I really wouldn't call HP a kids book, the language is a bit more simple at times and she recaps more than an adult author, but that's about it.
They also get more complex and darker as the series goes on. It's a good series for a kid to grow with. I was forced to because I started reading them before all the books were released.
They're defiantly enjoyable for adults.
