The doctor asked me why she was on ace if she had separation anxiety and that he thought he prescribed it for storms. I told him his tech must have miscommunicated earlier because I specifically told them what it was for and that she must have been mistaken because I mentioned I tried the thunder shirt first. He told me ace side effects wouldn't onset this late and told me rox probably has kennel cough, which is odd because she was fine until today and I don't kennel here and she hasn't been groomed lately. Her eyes are all squinty from being sedated, poor thing. ANyway, he recommended that I switch her to Prozac and that the ace be out of her system for at least 24 hours before I give it to her so now I have to try to escape the house tomorrow morning and drive another hour out of my way during the work day to pick up her new prescription. And so the saga continues.
Oh man, what a mess! I think this could be a side effect, despite what he said. Ace is known to be able to cause breathing issues, so for me, it's too big of a coincidence to have coughing after giving Ace. How long btwn giving Ace did the coughing start?

There is really no such thing as "being overdue" for kennel cough bc kennel cough is TOTALLY elective - it's not a core vaccine (like rabies, parvo, distemper). You do not have to get it, at all. I never get it for my dogs, and never will as it's unnecessary. And btw, dogs can actually *get* kennel cough infection from the actual vaccine itself .
