I always crate train my dogs and find that you will have the best sleep without your pet(s). My dogs love their "dens" and run to them whenever it is time for them to be crated. Of course, they get a small treat to which they look forward. We do not let dogs have run of house, so anytime we are not home or at nite, they go into their dens. We attached an x-pen and took off the doors so they have extra room to stretch. We call it their condo!
After one experience, I vowed never again. Casey would sleep fine but he'd get off the bed and bark at me until he was fed - it kept getting earlier and earlier. Casey did not know the difference between work days and weekend days.
