BUT...felt I should comment on this. The reason the Triple Crown is so elusive is because of the way it is structured. The Belmont has always been this way....if you had the same horses competing in all three races, sure maybe there would be more Triple Crown winners, but that would make it all the less impressive. It really takes some horse to pull off those three races. |
I'm glad you commented, everyone that posts gives us more to think about.
The owners complained before the race and others also but I guess this is how it has been done and probably will continue to be.
As someone said Secretariat was up to a challenge from any horse but we are not going to run into a horse with a 22 pound machine often or maybe never again. I also read his heart was in perfect condition at death.
