I have a hus embroidery machine. Mine is old... maybe 10 years? I remember when I first got "hooked" on the high end machines someone told me I would spend more money on my "sewing room" than one of my kids college education. They were close.

So... when I embroidery a dress or a quilt I can spend several HOURS on one block or dress. If I have to research a design, find or do the computer graphics of the design, work with the fonts .. then transfer to a disk to use with my machine (yes.. my machine is old enough to use disKs) hoop the fabric (using interfacing etc) stitch the design out can be 1 or more hours (my machine is temperamental enough that I have to watch closely)... then finish the project.

I have sold doggie quilts for around $100.00 (and made many as gifts for ge etc) I spend hours on the embroidery... more hours on fabric selection and a few mins on sewing the quilt together!! to be honest they are a labor of love because at $100.00 it is pennies per hours.

So... yes custom emborder is costly. If it is done right it is worth it. You get what you pay for I guess.
I see where you are coming from... This is the very reason I will NOT do silk floral arrangements.
