On to the problem, how does he behave in the house after playing? If he doesn't ever do this at home then he obviously doesn't like something about the walking. I know Mia refused to walk, she always wanted to be carried. I would take a couple walks while holding him and then stopping and sitting on the grass. Take a regular leash and keep it on him during this. Then let him take little walks and pick him up and then allow for further and further, if he simply doesn't like walks, how about getting a stroller? This way you both can enjoy the walk!
Oh one more thing, maybe a thorough checkup, including his paws and legs wouldn't hurt.
Good Luck, keep us posted. |
Thanks for the great suggestions! I did not know that about the Flexi leashes. I will search the forum and check out a few threads. It would really be a shame because he loves to run. I live in a condo in Chicago with no yard so he would not be able to run without that leash. I really don't want to bring him to the dog park. I worry a large dog will make him a snack. I can't imagine how the leash would harm him but I will look it up.
He behaves completely normal in the house. He never does anything like that in the house that is why it is so strange. Only on walks does he do these things. He squirms around when you try to carry him so I don't think that will work. As far as a regular leash I will give it a try as I do have one. I am not sure why it would be different as a flexi leash that is locked at a certain length which I have tried. The stroller is a good idea and if it comes to that I might just do it. I am hoping I can figure out what went wrong though because keep in mind for a month and a half he walked long distances without issue. He really really loved those walks.
You are absolutely right about getting him a check up. I bring him in soon for the last of his shots and I will have the vet check him out completely. Thanks so much for the help I really appreciate it!
