So... when I embroidery a dress or a quilt I can spend several HOURS on one block or dress. If I have to research a design, find or do the computer graphics of the design, work with the fonts .. then transfer to a disk to use with my machine (yes.. my machine is old enough to use disKs) hoop the fabric (using interfacing etc) stitch the design out can be 1 or more hours (my machine is temperamental enough that I have to watch closely)... then finish the project.
I have sold doggie quilts for around $100.00 (and made many as gifts for ge etc) I spend hours on the embroidery... more hours on fabric selection and a few mins on sewing the quilt together!! to be honest they are a labor of love because at $100.00 it is pennies per hours.
So... yes custom emborder is costly. If it is done right it is worth it. You get what you pay for I guess. |
I agree completely. Having the equipment to do quality custom work is costly. And using top quality threads, stabilizers and fabrics is expensive. Plus it costs a pretty penny to purchase designs that are licensed - and personally I wouldn't do illegal work any more than I'd buy a puppymill YorkIe. Nor would I ask someone to do copyrighted designs without proper authorization. With that said, I don't think $30.00 is outrageous. Maybe a bit on the high side, but not unreasonable.
