The potentially tainted food was distributed to 17 veterinary clinic and pet store customers in California, Hawaii and Nevada between April 24 and May 13, 2014, according to a news release from the company.
The recall involved 15.5 pound bags with a stock-keeping unit (SKU) code of 9097 and a “best before” date of 08 2015 M094 printed on the bags.
All 17 customers have been contacted by Hill’s and no illnesses had been reported, the release stated.
The product was accidentally released, according to the company, which said the discovery was made “during a routine inventory reconciliation.”
Anyone who purchased the dog food was urged to discontinue use and immediately call Hill’s Pet Nutrition at 1-800-445-5777 Monday through Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. (CT).
