It does take time. Do not give up. They have to be able to connect -ring bell- to door open- to potty. This took at least a month of being consistent. Everytime she went out I would repeat the words- "outside" & "potty". Roxie is so funny because sometimes she will ring the bell and if you don't move fast enough, she will ring the bell harder and then turn around and stare at you as to say, " Move it!" Plus will ring it and when you open the door, she will actually stand there, sniff the air and then look at you as to say" Thank you, I was just checking the weather" and turn around and go back to what she was doing.
