I've never, ever had a vet tell me not to bother to come in. Even my least favorite vet would tell me to come in if I had any concerns. Their reasoning was two-fold: my peace of mind and education about what symptoms I should be watching for/concerned about; as well as a baseline exam so they could have a basis for comparison if anything changed.
Poor pup to have such a vet with such a lackadaisical attitude.
