My Sapphire was totally clueless. It was so bad I finally rewarded her for peeing on the rug so she would understand what I meant when I said go pee! In reality I figured if it backfired on me it couldn't get any worst as she peed on the rug all the time anyway. Well that's all it took and she peed on the pad, finally after 2 months (and she was a sneak peer) and I praised the heck out of her. I think I even cried I was so happy. She also was a poo walker, and would get MOST of it on the pad, most of the time. I got her at 2 years of age, and it took a bit but she is now 100% reliable on using pee pads. WooHoo! So yes, it can be done, and I don't think it's much harder than training a young puppy.
