Yep, plain old aluminum foil. You want to make tightly packed balls about the size of tennis balls. They need to be heavy enough to help separate the clothes to decrease drying time.
Adding vinegar to your rinse cycle also held with softening. You'll be amazed at how much more absorbent your towels will be after doing this.
