Aw, I'm so sorry about the diagnosis, I know it's scary. What about Care Credit, have you applied for that yet? If not, that's def an option.
On the upside, I had Wylie's LP fixed about a year ago and for both knees it was around $1500 - so it shouldn't be anywhere near 5k for you. If that's what's being quoted, I'd def get a 2nd opinion elsewhere.
