I believe it is individual to each dog, which food works best. A longtime member here has posted that her dog has never had tear stains while eating Royal Canin. When she tried another food, he had runny eyes.

I've read similar stories related to many other foods. My boys do not have tear stains on Fromm, but a friend has written that her dog had terrible eye boogers when eating it. Some dogs' eyes do better with grains, other do better with grain free.

A tear stain problem may have nothing to do with food at all.
