I don't think he was threatening you in his quote. I took it as he's a (ret.) police officer so he's probably dealt with more violence first hand than most individuals. In his experience he knows what works for him in the situations he's specifically been in and probably can more than match most others with his knowledge in what's effective or not . Just my opinion.
