I used to teach at a university where students brought their dogs and their horses to the campus. Never seemed to be a problem, but most of them were kids from ranches and they wouldn't have left home without them.
Every year the day the students move in the campus was full of horse trailers, dogs, pickups , cowboy hats and boots. -- was lots of fun
