Congratulations!! My boys' breeder lives 6 hours away, so visiting was not an option. I relied on photos and descriptions of personality from our breeder.
Many breeders have waiting lists and require deposits very early. It's a personal decision. For me, I would be nervous choosing too early. I would have a hard time committing before 10 weeks. However, many people here have committed before a litter is even born. You have to really trust your breeder and the breeding stock.
As for visits, that is also up to the breeder and you.
