Wanted to add . . . . while I agree with the book about not having really high expectations for a puppy relative to potty training (especially for non-pad methods) . . . puppies tend to learn things faster in general. I regret that I did not start obedience/trick training earlier. Max knew sit right away, but I didn't work on anything else. I am a terrible trick trainer.
In short, start training now and have fun with it!
