No worries, my boys are both pad and outdoor trained. Max did take a little while to figure out that it was okay, desirable, to potty outdoors. I took him on long walks and when he finally did it, I praised him like he had done the best thing ever. Then he pottied outdoors all the time.

Taylor, I think the only time it is confusing is when methods keep changing. It is definitely possible to pad train, and then 100% outdoor train. It is also to possible to do the reverse -- as I did with Teddy. He was 100% outdoor trained when I brought him home at 8 months. I re-trained to him to also use the pads.
